Esteemed Members of the Illustrious Scholarly Society of Manicburg-on-Hudson,
Traveling lecturer Dr. Theobald Lucius Wainsborough III, learned man of letters and rigorous pursuit of new knowledge, will mount the stage of the town hall bearing news of recent discoveries of great magnitude in the natural sciences. He and his august ensemble of colleagues know that you share his fervent intellectual curiosity, and are confident you will be thoroughly engrossed by his every word.
Yours sincerely,
Messrs. L. Porto and R. J. Lustig
Manicburg’s self-titled debut album, released in late 2024 on Respirano Records, spans a vast sonic palette from post-punk to dreampop, with influences including Blonde Redhead, Bauhaus, and Radiohead. The album is getting press attention both in the US and Europe, and has entered radio rotation on several European and U.S. FM stations.
Manicburg's live band lineup of five includes guitarist/backing vocalist Rob Salmon, drummer Varo Barahona, and bassist Daniel Espinoza.
Manicburg is headed by Ray Lustig and Luigi Porto, two veteran musicians with international careers. The New York Times calls Lustig’s previous work, “surreally beautiful…ecstatic…rapturous,” and The Washington Post hails its “eerie prescience.” Likewise, Angelo Badalamenti praises Porto’s work as “abstract, hypnotizing, absolutely unique,” and Stuart Maconie highlights its “incredibly striking atmospheres.” Lustig and Porto's music has seen some of the most prestigious venues around the world--including Carnegie Hall and Cannes La Croisette--and with Manicburg they return to the alt-rock stage.
